Patty's Comments on Getting A Keg

Patty writes:

I checked into a keg of beer. They are right at $100, need a couple of weeks advance notice, and what flavor, etc. How about if I bring containers for the cans/bottles/plastic and I will take them away with me when we leave on Sunday? You have to keep the keg cold (how I am not sure) and then you still need lots of cups.

Aunt Patty - thank you so much for checking on this. I agree with you. Lets skip the keg as it may be more trouble than its worth.

Thoughts on Getting A Keg of Beer at the Reunion?

Jonathan's post about planning ahead for boats made me think of another thing we should plan for and that is beer. It seemed like we had tons of water bottles, soda cans, and beer cans/bottles to throw away and the wastebaskets in the rooms are small. I talked to the folks at Bass Lake and they said its fine if we want to get a keg and put it on a balcony but they won't facilitate it for us. I don't know what everyone else thinks about this but a keg might cut down on cans and bottles that we have to throw away. If we want one we should probably order it in advance and see if we can get it delivered. If we do get a keg I think it should reside on Sean/Jim's back deck since I am sure that is where most of the poker games will be played.

Boat Rentals

I am also tremendously excited about the reunion! One additional thing we should plan in advance would be any boat rentals. Last year we had a hard time getting jet skis, and party boats were impossible. If anyone wants to rent watercraft, please let me or Elizabeth know so that we can make the reservation before they're all booked.

Photos from 2006 Handlin Family Reunion

Memories from 2006....aren't you getting excited for the reunion this year!?

Tentative Agenda For Handlin Family Reunion

Hello family,

I am so excited about the family reunion that I have created a blog so that everyone in the family can stay abreast of and, if you like, contribute to information about our family reunion. We can also use this blog to share family information and photos. Should be fun.
So far the following is the schedule of meals and events for the reunion. Once again, Dan is generously bringing his boat so plan on lots of fun on Bass Lake again this year. I am certain that Jonathan, Sean, Jim, Damian, Jimmy, and Colin the card shark will be hosting poker games each night.
Schedule:

Thursday
Families arrive, no formal meals are planned

Friday
Lunch hosted by Pat & Darrell at their cabin
Menu: bbq pork sandwiches (tentative)

Dinner hosted by Dan and Teresa
Menu: tri-tip dinner

Saturday
Lunch - nothing planned at this time

Dinner hosted by Jim, Ed, and Mary
Location: El Cid's Mexican restaurant (same place as last year)

Sunday
Breakfast and checkout

If anyone wants to host a lunch on Saturday let me know. Otherwise we will just eat on our own. As you and your family plan your arrival and departure times let us know or just go ahead and post them on this blog so that everyone will know when to anticipate seeing you.

Handlin Family Reunion 2007 Will Be Held July 26 - 29, 2007

Originally emailed to everyone on August 20, 2007

Hello All

Sean and I reviewed all of the feedback that you sent regarding family reunion timing and location. Thank you for the time and thought you put into your replies. After careful consideration, we have decided to host it at Bass Lake again next year.

While some of you suggested Pismo, Tahoe, or a cruise we selected Bass Lake for the following reasons:

At the hotel in Pismo there isn't a convenient meeting room at which the group can gather easily. I do not know the area around Pismo well enough to find a suitable alternative to the hotel we stayed in before. I looked on a Lake Tahoe vacation planning website but since I don't know the area it was hard for me to figure out a good location to rent homes for the reunion. There is plenty to do in Bass Lake and its relatively easy to get to. Also the cabins make it easy for the family to gather and socialize.

So, for 2007, the reunion will be at Bass Lake and I hope everyone will be able to come. If anyone in the group feels strongly about another location and is willing to plan the reunion in that location for 2008 please throw your hat in the ring at next years' reunion. http://www.basslake.com/index.html

Reunion 2007 will be held from Thursday July 26 - Sunday July 29, 2007. These dates were selected because:

The weekend of July 26 - 29, 2007 is the only weekend in July during which The Pines has 10 chalets as well as the handicapped suite (for Aunt Susie) available... I have specifically asked the Pines to reserve the handicapped suite as part of our block of rooms.

I am awaiting the contract from The Pines which I should receive sometime this week. Once that is signed I will send out another email reminding you to call and make your individual reservations to hold your cabins. As you know, each cabin is a duplex connected by a door so if there is another person/family with whom you would like your cabin connected please mention that when you make your reservation.

Please look over the email address list on this note and if you notice that I have inadvertently left anyone off the list please forward this to them and send me the missing email address. I don't want to leave anyone off the list!

Looking forward to seeing you all in 2007 if not before!

Love
Elizabeth & Jonathan
